Upcoming Stories
Jarrod Wilson and Jason Fizer's show "Beyond the Tartan X" opens February 7 at Radford University's Flossie Martin Gallery, which is one of the best exhibition spaces in the New River Valley.
The show is billed as ranging from "landscapes and pop culture icons to tractors and biblical themes."
What else is there?

Coming up in Issue #7
Augusten Burroughs Interview!!! Author of bestseller "Running with Scissors" and the upcoming "Wolf at the Table".
16 Blocks has a new QandA man.
Much props to Kyle E. for posing some great questions that probed Burroughs to talk about his new book, offer advice for young writers, and remember his past addictions amongst other things in a truly honest and heartfelt interview.
Beer and Wine
If you're drinking good beer at a local bar, chances are it was Danny Fladd who delivered it. 16 Blocks welcomes Fladd to our team with a focus on Virginia beers.
And contracts are currently being negotiated to sign on John Boyer, local wino/guru and world traveling social commentator. If the deal goes through (Boyer's holding out for 12 jugs of Carlo Rossi to be ceremoniously smashed in protest of something), he will be writing about vino for the 16 B's.
Gun Culture
Our very own Garrett Bobb will be writing about a culture which is very much a part of where we live.
Skate Park
Staff writer Flash Clark and photographer David Franusich will be visiting Blacksburg's skate park.
Here's a few more things coming up in issue #7:
-Video game reviewer Virginia Hopkins puts down the controller for a visit to Floyd.
-Lindsey Austin writes about Chimney Sweep Records
-Expatriate and ex-WUVT DJ and ex-Brit Tom Porter talks about relocating to Maine.
-Julia Rutherford previews Homebody's upcoming Anti-Fashion show
-Qiongdan Xie discusses Asian stereotyping on campus
-Web designer David Williams engages local religion in his first article for the magazine. After the success of his piece on William Buckley, we're all very excited for Williams journalistic debut.
-Guest Photographer Tuan Pham is composing a photo-essay
-Ethos, Know Your Rights and More...
Plus more artwork from Danny Phillips and Ben Capozzi, as well as a cover designed by our very own Christina O'Connor and David Fransuich.
Send story ideas, and if you feel you might be a source for any of these or have photographs that might apply, let me know.
16 Blocks, celebrating Blacksburg Arts and Culture Issue #7 will be released Thursday, April 17.
Stay tuned for details regarding our big release event, which most likely will be held at Ceritano's on the 17th.
This just in: John Boyer acted as surrogate negotiator for the Blocks and just closed the deal with The Plaid Avenger to write about wine. If you think A-Rod negotiations or bowls full of only brown M&Ms are ludicrous, then you would be astounded by the fine print on this freshly inked contract.
If you're interested in traveling to the top of the Himalayas, the Avenger said you're welcome to stay at the Sherpa Saloon, the new wine bar 16 B's bought as part of the deal. Tell the fur-coated Samoan at the door the password, "Hearst" and you're in.
That, and 1000 words about wine coming in issue #7 is what we get out the deal
Cheers,
Hart
Can't wait! Plaidcasts are the most educationally rich media at the entire university, possibly the globe. Stewart and Colbert couldn't do this if they had to write their own material: http://www.plaidavenger.com
