Influences
Juxtapoz, Lemon, The New Yorker, Mother Jones, My mom who gave me art-sense and taught me to have interest in everything., Kerouac when I was younger, Fitzgerald and Hemingway and Faulkner next, then Vidal, and then Chabon and Franzen and Larry Brown and Bukowski. I like E.B White and Chuck Klosterman as essayists. I feel my recent discovery of detective fiction like James Lee Burke and his Louisiana bayou stories as well as pulp fiction stuff like Elmore Leonard have given me great pleasure over the last couple months. I've always loved the genre-work in films (western and gangster especially), now I'm really enjoying these stylizations in books., And speaking of ganster stories, read "After Hours" and "Carlito's Way" by Edwin Torres. The two book saga of Carlos Brigante told in the first person by the Puerto Rican gangster from Spanish Harlem. It's a treat. And you can hear Pacino rappin in your ear for the duration., Right now I'm with Winesburg, Ohio by Sherwood Anderson. A great small town story where the characters are in the room with you, breathing.
Bio

Issue #9 culminated in the coolest booth at Steppin Out. Our chess-problem maker Chuck Roncoe had a table that drew a crowd and a line of challengers. Brian from the Lantern brought his Theramon to the weird-look-delights of the passerbys. We sold a handful 5-4 Whoa albums and a dozen or so prints and handed out about 1500 mags. It was a lot of work and stress and its a wonder Amy and I didn't strangle each other...Oh wait!
